Middle East Center

The Middle East Center at the University of Pennsylvania has played a pivotal role in enriching and expanding the study of the Middle East and its languages on campus. In addition to providing funds for new courses, salaries, and pedagogical training for language instructors, as well as supporting faculty initiatives, we have built on our outstanding outreach program both at Penn and in the larger community, to forge partnerships with K-16 schools, area colleges and other organizations and communities in the Delaware Valley (please see exemplary activities). Our outreach efforts have promoted knowledge and awareness of Middle East cultures, politics, and societies for the community at large. Our programs offer a more informed, responsible, and thoughtful perspective on the region for the public's understanding both on campus and beyond.
