The New York Consortium for European Studies (NYCES), a cooperative effort of the European centers of New York University and Columbia University, has been a major force for the development of European studies in the New York region for well over a decade. Innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate curricula; over 1000 courses; and hundreds of non-language and language faculty service our scholarly community. An extensive outreach program reaches literally thousands beyond the walls of our universities. Our libraries hold more than 3 million Western Europe-related titles in their collections. During the past several years, we have developed new programs for training teachers at every level; have sponsored outreach activities on Western Europe at the regional, national and international levels; and established strength in least- and less-commonly-taught language offerings and evaluation.
