Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies

The Duke-UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies (CSEEES) fosters a deeper understanding of Eastern European and Eurasian countries, thereby improving our national capacity to meet strategic U.S. needs. CSEEES seeks to accomplish this purpose through a wide variety of projects and activities, including:

  • extensive teacher training and public outreach activities,
  • development of innovative courses and curricula in language, culture and area studies, including clearly articulated proficiency standards and goals for language acquisition,
  • conferences and workshops,
  • faculty and student exchanges, and application of new technologies to language, culture and social science courses.

The principal audience for these projects and activities is undergraduate and graduate students, K-12 teachers, instructors at post-secondary institutions, the business community, and the media.

CSEEES is the only NRC for the Russia and Eastern Europe region that is organized as a consortium, combining the strengths of two of the nation's leading universities.
