In order to enrich the flow of research ideas among students, CGI offers 2,000 to Student Research Circles to organize speaker series, brown bags, workshops, publications, film screenings, or service-learning projects. This year, students explored infectious diseases, refugees and asylum, mental health in Africa, and Israel/Palestine Dialogue. Similarly, to foster innovative and interdisciplinary research, CGI funds Faculty Working Groups with 4,000 to critique scholarly works, host visiting speakers, organize conferences, develop grant proposals, and embed research into the curriculum. Topics covered include the economic development of North Carolina, environment impacts on the Galapagos Islands, transnational Islamic thinkers, breastfeeding and infant health, and the humanities in the global American South. cgi.unc.edu/funding
