Commemorating 750 years of the city of Berlin, this public artwork symbolizes the multilevel relationships between old and new, historic and contemporary. The modern sculpture frames a view of a WWII memorial, the Church of Remembrance. The work invokes images of an unlinked chain, of trees, of separateness and interconnectedness; the elements approach and encircle each other, not totally intersecting but forming an interchange.

This photo represents a congregation and integration of different peoples from around the world in one spot. In one corner there are several Italian art students; on the opposite side there are some tourists who look to be from Asia; in the center there is a woman, likely a tourist, who seems to be at peace amongst all of the chaos around her; in the background the people as well as the photographer seem to be local Italians. This one historical and beautiful spot has brought all these people together.
