Details: As a U.S. Department of Education Title VI grant funded National Resource Center, Cornell's South Asia Program (SAP) offers two types of fellowship support to assist meritorious graduate and undergraduate students undergoing training in modern South Asian languages and related area studies:. Academic Year Foreign Language and Area Studies (AY FLAS) Fellowship and Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship for Summer Intensive Language Study (includes--2 Undergraduate Summer FLAS). Applicants for the AY FLAS Fellowship must be enrolled at Cornell in an approved course of study leading to a Master's or Doctoral degree. For the 2009-10 academic year, the AY FLAS awards will provide $12,000 in tuition (fall and spring semesters) and a nine month stipend of $15,000 for full-time graduate study. For 2010, Summer FLAS awardees will receive $2,500 in stipend and up to $4,000 tuition support for intensive language study at the intermediate or advanced level in an approved program in the United States or abroad. FLAS Fellowships are limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
